Welcome to Reading Traveller.

I was inspired by other podcasts that read through RPGs like Plot Points full reading of the DMG, RTFM, Mastering Dungeons and others to explore Traveller and the fiction that inspired it. There’s no official “Appendix N” for Traveller but there are lots of unofficial lists of Traveller-esque fiction. Shannon Applecline does a great job in The Science Fiction in Traveller but there are plenty of other books he doesn’t cover there.
Traveller’s current incarnations are Mongoose Traveller 2nd edition and Traveller5 from Marc Miller himself. The original Classic Traveller 3 “little black books” from 1981 are available in reprint as the Classic Traveller Facsimile Edition. The PDF is currently free and the POD physical copy is a mere $9.
Classic Traveller is a fascinating text to read as the game text tells you the rules, but not how to play or what a Traveller game is supposed to look like. But we can read between the lines to try to figure out how it’s supposed to be played.
Traveller also has over 40 years of worldbuilding and lore. Reading through the Classic Traveller adventures and supplements is a fascinating way to see how GDW (Traveller’s original publisher) built it out.
Why a podcast? I can’t type fast enough to keep up regular blog posts and video editing for You Tube seems like a lot of work. Plus I love the podcasts mentioned above and am inspired to make something that could be half as good as any of them.
